About the numeracy test

LANTITE (the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education) is run by ACER for the Australian Government. Students in initial teacher education must meet the standard in both the literacy and numeracy components.

According to ACER's published Skills and Content Guide, the numeracy component has:

  • 65 questions in 120 minutes, in two sections
  • Section 1: 52 questions with an onscreen calculator
  • Section 2: 13 questions without a calculator, using everyday numbers, fractions and percentages
  • Content from number and algebra (about 40–50%), measurement and geometry (about 20–30%) and statistics and probability (about 25–35%)
  • Questions set in personal, community and school contexts, such as reading school data, budgets, GST, timetables and NAPLAN results

How to use these practice exams

  1. Sit one full exam under timed conditions.
  2. Read the explanation for every question you got wrong, and redo it on paper.
  3. Track which topics cost you marks using the results breakdown, and practise those in Practice mode.
  4. Aim for a consistent score above 45 out of 65 before you book the real test.

For official information, test windows and registration, see the ACER LANTITE website.
